Leadership Team Meeting – Monday, Nov 2nd, 2020 at 5:30pm – via Zoom

In attendance were Joyce Noland, Linda Blake, George Carr, Ron Nelson, Marian Garcia, Stephanie Wolfe, Faith Loeb, Mo Garcia, Larry Howell, Leslie McCowen, Cheryl Breidenbach, Ben Stephens, Chris Tubbs, and Marissa Evans.

Joyce called the meeting to order.

New Hours at Odell Weeks

·       They started basketball season, so we have limited hours. We now start at 8:45am but must be out by 2:30pm and we have lost weekends.

·       OW is not limiting what we do, and the state has increased the number of people allowed. It is up to us to set limits.

·       Drop-in play at OW is now from 8:45am to 10:45am and just for courts 1 and 2 in Gym 2. No reservation required, policing of the number of people is up to us.  There was a lengthy discussion about how to go handle too many people showing up or standing on the sides. We encourage you to be safe and responsible. We can do this on our own.  And if this works, we will let it as is, if there is an issue, we will revisit the decision.

·       Courts 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be available for reservation at the same time as Drop-in play is taking place 8:45am –10:45pm but you must sign up for those. Remember that if you reserve and do not show up within 15 min of your reservation time, that court becomes available to other players.

·       After 10:45am courts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 are available for reservation. Court 5 will be closed.

Gregg Park

·       We are talking to Gregg Park about increasing hours there but nothing for sure yet. We know they are not having basketball, so we are hopeful. Will keep you posted.   Note:  We now have morning play on Fridays at Gregg Park and the hours have been slightly extended.  Tue/Thu/Fri 930-1130; 1130-1pm; Sat 9-11; 11-1230

·       No play evenings at Gregg Park since they close at 7pm.

Other playing options

·        Eustis Park gets busy on weekends. It is a nice outdoor facility.

·        Do not forget about Smith-Hazel.  Reserve courts available Monday and Wednesday from 10am-12pm.

Side-by-Side play for groups with 2 courts

·       Reserved courts at OW are filling up quickly so we were proposing to open courts 2 and 5.  We voted and agreed to open 2 but keep 5 closed.

·       We encourage you to reserve side by side courts if you have large groups.

Little Mo Drills

·       Mo let us know that Little Mo drills at Smith-Hazel are going well. We are getting about 10 participants per week.  Note:  Effective Nov 18th, Little Mo Drills at Smith-Hazel are being held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am-12pm.

·       Some people are booking and not showing up. Please make sure that if you book, you show up and not keep someone else from taking advantage of this program.

Taking the nets and dividers down.

·       We are still having some nets left up after play. Please… Take your nets down after you play unless you have people there waiting for your court or you have checked the online sign up and know that the court is reserved for the following time slot. We encourage you to do the right thing.

·       There has also been some discussion to include the proper procedure to put nets up and take them down as part of beginners training (already implemented by Faith and Linda) and as part of the rating process.

·       A couple of tips - When taking the nets down, please remember to release the Velcro to protect the net.  And, when putting the net up,  remember to carefully slide the center rod into the sleeve.  Please do not force the rod as they seem to be breaking at an alarming rate.  Mo said that we will replace a lot of these rods with fiberglass one so we will have less damage.

New players clinic

·       New Players Clinics were scheduled for Nov 6th

·       Mo oversees the new player clinics and told us he is trying to schedule one a month.

Player Reps input

·       Linda – New player practice had 6 people and George Wisz helped. Linda and George took 3 players each. They discussed how to take down and put up nets, rules and playing. They feel that this group was particularly good.

·       Leslie and Cheryl – Please try to get Gregg Park to give us some night times.

·       Larry – GP got 4 new players and the number of members is increasing every month.

·       Larry also pointed out we were well represented at the Patriots Park Tournament in Columbia, GA. Many of our members participated and there were many medals. Great job guys!

Next Meeting will be Monday, Dec 7th, 2020 at 5:30pm via Zoom.
