Minutes for the February Leadership Team meeting

The minutes for the Leadership Team Meeting that was held Monday, February 3rd, 2020, have been posted. Topics that were discussed included:

The format, location, and date of next round robin. Location will be at Gregg Park, format will be Mixed Doubles, Teams - 3.0; 3.5 & 4.0. The exact date is still waiting for final approval and should be announced shortly.

Our new assistant pro, Megan Hollenbeck, was introduced, as well as Gloria Lynch, the new player representative for Gregg Park.

The Spring League has generated a lot of interest and as of now we have several potential teams, both in Aiken and Augusta.

There was a lengthy and animated discussion about what to do to give everyone a fair chance to get a court reservation, especially when court space is limited during basketball season. As the basketball season at Odell is almost over, and extra courts and Wednesday evening and Saturday play will soon be available at Gregg Park, it was decided to leave the signup procedures as they currently exist. We will make adjustments when the next basketball season starts and our playing time is reduced.

Skill Rating Session for February

The next skill rating session will be held on Thursday, February 27th, from 11 am - 2:00 pm, on Court #4. A minimum of four players is needed to conduct the session.

Referees Wanted

Are you Interested in being a volunteer referee at the Aiken’s Palmetto Doubles Tournament later this summer? Or willing to help the referees but do not want to be a referee?

If so, please let David Hoel know (davidfhoel@gmail.com). Training sessions will be provided.

Certification or previous referee experience is not required.

Drills with "Little Mo" - Additional sessions

As you may have seen, the response to the Drills with “Little Mo” has been phenomenal. All slots for the ones posted through the end of February were filled within a couple of hours. Per our request, Mo has agreed to do an additional one-hour session and the City has been kind enough to grant the extra time.

Starting Monday, January 27th, and each Monday thereafter through the end of March, there will be two sessions back to back (9:00 - 10:00 am and 10:00 - 11:00 am) in Gym 1. Both sessions will cover the same theme. The themes are listed on the calendar and the sign-up.

If you have signed up for a session and will not be able to attend, please remove your name from the sign-up. Players who do not attend and who have not removed their names at least 24 hours in advance will still be required to pay for the session. Failure to pay for missed sessions will make that person ineligible to sign up for future sessions.

Megan Hollenbeck, our newest teaching professional, will assist Mo with feedback and proper stroke technique.
